What are cuttings and what are rooted plants?
Since we get this question quite often we figured that pictures were as good as a thousand words.
A cutting is nothing more than a branch, pictured above, which has been cut from a tree which can then be "rooted"
to grow into a new tree. Cutting may come in a number of different shapes, some may have one tip, others may have 2 or 3 tips.
Typically a single tip cutting will bloom faster than a multi tip and since plumeria form new tips while blooming what started
out as single tip could very well develop anywhere from 2 to 3 tips where there was once only one tip.
Typically our cuttings will be approximately 16 inches +/-. The caliper or "girth" of plumeria cuttings varies by cultivar or variety, see picture above, can vary widely,
anywhere from 1/2 inch up to 2 inches depending upon the cultivar.
A rooted cutting is nothing more than a cutting which has already gone through the rooting process. The size of the rootball is based
upon how long the cutting has been rooted. A newly rooted plant will have a relatively small root-ball whereas one which may have been
rooted many months prior or even the previous year will have a much more substantial size rootball. When rooted cuttings are prepared
for shipment it is quite common for some roots to be broken from the tree. We do not ship soil over state lines so you will be receiving
the rooted plant in a "bare root" state with instructions on proper set out procedure. Plumeria are very hardy and respond very well
to our set out procedure.
In some cases we may have to remove some or all leaves on rooted plants due to the USPS now basing their rates on size of package rather than weight alone.
Typically rootballs are wrapped in wet papertowels and taped into plastic bags. Sometimes we utilize spaghnum moss. We ship in appropriate size boxes
via USPS Priority mail.
